The benefits of Myer’s Cocktail are various and also very well documented. Just to name a few, it aids in anything from respiratory problems and migraines, to boosting your immune system and energy levels. However, nothing is without risk. Although having adverse side effects from IV therapy is extremely rare, it is possible for some patients to have a negative reaction to it. The reactions can be various and range in severity, but these are often counteracted if you know ahead of time what you could be allergic to, or have adverse side effects to.
The Myer’s cocktail should always be administered by trained medical professionals with experience in treatment of your condition. We at SOHMA are committed to our patients’ health, safety, and well being. Our goal in providing information to you on possible side effects is to allow you to make the best possible healthcare decision for yourself and your current situation. Should you have any questions about these side effects please do not hesitate to contact us directly or call us at 562-408-1140.
Allergic Reaction
As with any intravenous procedures there is the possibility of allergic reactions due to the serum or instruments used to administer the IV. These instruments may cause a rash and itching or in worse cases you may see swelling or blistering on the skin. Remember, these reactions would occur even under a normal hospital setting if you had not reported you were allergic to such instruments.
These reactions are very rare and do not affect the majority of patients but please let the professionals administering the Myer’s Cocktail know if you are feeling any of these symptoms or if you’ve had previous allergic reactions.
Contrasting Medication
If you have been prescribed any medication, it is very important to let us know because there is a possibility that the medications you are taking may have a negative reaction to the blend of vitamins in the Myer’s Cocktail. Although Vitamins are natural and known for being safe, the vitamins and electrolytes included in the IV blend may interact adversely to prescribed medication causing potentially unsafe conditions. If you have any doubts, feel free to bring us the prescriptions you are currently taking and we can inform you of any potential side effects.
Visual Injection Point and Soreness
Due to the nature of how IV’s are administered the injection point may leave a visible mark. Depending on the patient’s skin sensitivity this may heal in just a few days, but in some rare cases it may take a couple weeks to fully heal. The injection point may also become irritated making the visible mark heal slower as well. In some cases patients feel soreness and feeling of heat at the injection site. All of the above mentioned effects are often normal and would have been experienced even during a typical blood drawing during laboratory examination or during blood donation.
Happily though, all of our patients feel relaxed and re-energized after any of our IV therapy sessions.
Lightheadedness
Due to magnesium being a vasodilator, the Myer’s Cocktail blend may lower your blood pressure causing you to feel a little bit light headed. If you feel this happening to you, feel free to let the professional administering the IV know. They will proceed to lower the dose at which the infusion enters your body.
Although we have listed several adverse side effects of taking a Myer’s Cocktail, please remember that most of these side effects are rare and would also be known to you if you’ve ever had any intravenous solutions administered to you. If you have any concerns, please feel free to let us know and we can always address them with you, or consult your primary health physician to learn about any allergies you may have to the instruments used in IV therapy.
