On August 20th 2015, we had the privilege of facilitating a self-care session for the Los Angeles County Dept of Mental Health Wraparound Coordinators. Included was a brief discussion on Tai Chi philosophy and how it relates to trauma-informed practices! We also led the entire Tai Chi 24 form Yang Style to bring the mind back into the body.
People said it was life changing.. We had so much fun and so did they!

Play Your Way to Fitness
SOHMA Health Tip: Want to look good for summer? Looking good is a reflection of feeling good and being healthy. If you want your physique to improve, you have to get physical. Easier said than done – I know. The best way we have found to get people to exercise is to not call it that. Exercise is often boring. Instead, we recommend you “PLAY” your way to a new physical state of health. Do you like to dance, play ball, swim, hike, horse around, skip, throw a ball, play tag, garden? Pick any of these activities and have fun. Your body will begin to adapt and change with you. If you like the look of a particular physique such as a swimmer, volleyball player, rock climber, cyclist, etc., then start doing those things they do, and you’ll be amazed at how your body will begin to shape that way too. In physiology there is a principle that states: that the body will make specific adaptations to imposed demands. Meaning it will literally adapt to the demands you place on it. Once you get some momentum with your playful activities you’ll notice how good you feel and want to do more. Okay, you want to play, but don’t have time? Strange as it may seem, we all have the same 24 hours every single day. Put yourself first as a priority because no one else will. Take care of yourself, get out there and have fun! Your body, your friends, and your family will thank you.
